Editor Choice :TOP 5 FOODS IN BUKIT MERTAJAM [UPDATED 2023]

by - July 04, 2016

Hi, Guys, sharing my favourite foods @ Bukit Mertajam , Penang. There are still a lot of delicious foods but these foods that I listed are what I highly recommended.

Let’s me show you my TOP 5 Editor pick !

1. Yam Rice with Salted Vegetable Soup 芋头饭和猪什汤
This is non-halal food. I had eaten yam rice since I was a kid. Many people will prefer going the other branch. But for me, I’m loyal to BM yam rice which located at Sentosa Corner. The salted vegetable soup has pork meatballs, lean meat, three layer meat, pig blood cake and pork intestine.

Operating hours: [closed on Monday] 8.30am-2.30pm
Address:Jalan Kulim, 14000 Bukit Mertajam, Pulau Pinang, Malaysia
Price: below RM10 [For one person]

2. Jawa Mee 爪哇面

I can’t really find other best Jawa mee after eating this..haha I like their prawn fritters so much when eating with the mee.  Besides that , you also must try their Pasembur 青鱼 which contains cucumber, bean sprout, beancurd, prawn fritters, fried octopus, egg and being served together with chili paste.

Operating hours: [closed on Monday] 8.30am-2.30pm
Address:Jalan Kulim, 14000 Bukit Mertajam, Pulau Pinang, Malaysia
Price: RM 4.00 small
              RM 5.00 big

3.  Mei Shiang Seafood Restaurant  美香咖哩鱼头冷气餐厅
This main dish I want to recommend is the Curry Fish Head. This is the best curry fish head I ever had in my hometown and even in other states.  Their curry fish head is tasted different with others.

Operating hours: Lunch Hour 12.00am-2.45pm
                            Dinner Hour 5.30pm-10.30pm [closed Tuesday]
Address:G-18, Kondominium Prominence, Lorong Perda Utama 3, Bandar Baru Perda, 14000 Bukit Mertajam, Pulau Pinang
Price: around RM38 [Depends on size and type of fish]

4.  White Wanton Mee 大山脚伯公埕白色馄饨面
You will find it different with the normal wanton mee. It is located in the town. Many people go there eat this wanton mee and the " Mee Tai Mak" 米台目.

Operating Hour: Morning 7.00am-11.00am
                                   Afternoon 12.30pm-4.00pm [closed sunday]
Address: Jalan Pasar14000 Bukit Mertajam, Pulau Pinang,Malaysia
Price:  RM4.00 small
               RM5.00 Big
               RM6.00 (double mee)

5. Wang Ji Bak Kut Teh 旺记肉骨茶
This bak kut teh is very famous in the town. And now it has relocated near to my house. Many people come for this bak kut teh before it opened. They don't sell dry bak kut teh. If you arrive there , you need to take number for the queue.

Operating hours: 5.30pm-9.30pm [closed Friday]
Address: Taman Betik Manis, 14000 Bukit Mertajam (easily found along the roadside)
Price: RM8.50 /pax

There is still a lot of food like Rojak , Hokkien Mee , Curry Mee and others to be recommended. So, stay tuned for my blogpspot.

BONUS!!!
MAYTIP THAI FOOD since 1994 美迪泰式餐廳
This is my favourite Thai restaurant in the town and would recommend you to try it when you come over BM. There are some authentic thai you have to try like Tomyum, Thai Omelette and the bean sprout. They are still have other dish to choose like Petai,  Deep Fried Sotong, and many more.

Operating Hours:  11:30 - 15:00, 17:30 - 22:00
Address: 26 & 28, Jalan Lebuh Keranji ,14000 Bukit Mertajam
